eHealth Technologies to Link to RSNA

Improving Imaging Interoperability in New York State

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 28, 2014. eHealth Technologies announced today it has concluded an agreement with the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) that will increase standards-based interoperability between image sharing providers in New York State. As part of this agreement, eHealth Technologies will provide 48 participating sites access to the RSNA Image Share network, a platform that provides patients with access to their medical imaging information through image-enabled Personal Health Record accounts.

The network will also provide a platform for imaging sites to share data throughout New York. The exchange of information is based on the Cross-enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) profile published by the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) initiative and implemented in health information exchanges around the world.

“We are thrilled to work with RSNA on this important initiative to improve patient care throughout New York,” said Colin Rhodes, eHealth Technologies’ chief technical officer. “This is a natural extension to the work demonstrated by eHealth Technologies at the 2014 IHE Connectathon and the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase at Chicago and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.”

Standards-based interoperability offers the prospect of better patient care and yet another way to deliver on eHealth Technologies’ promise to deliver the right healthcare information, right when you need it. The benefits to patients include reduced radiation exposure by eliminating unnecessary repeat imaging, fewer cancelled specialist visits due to missing images, and better care when the physician has all the relevant information at their fingertips.

The RSNA Image Share project is led by Principal Investigator, David S. Mendelson, M.D. and co-chair of the IHE. The project is supported by a National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) contract to build a secure, patient-centric medical imaging sharing network based on common open standards/architecture.
